About

My name is Chisato, which means "1000 homelands." Just like my name, I try to be a "home" to my clients and create a safe, supportive therapeutic environment. I obtained my Bachelor's Degree from University of California, Berkeley. While I was going to school, I discovered I had a passion for rape crisis counseling. I volunteered as a rape crisis counselor for many years, where I worked with children and adults, sexually exploited minors, police officers and hospital staff. Afterwards, I obtained my master's degree from Pepperdine University and became licensed as a marriage and family therapist and professional clinical counselor. I have a lot of experience with anyone ages four and up, as well as families and couples.

My practice blends two perspectives. The first is called Person-Centered Therapy, which means that I genuinely believe that each person has the best version of themselves already inside of them. When we are not able to be the best version of ourselves in our day-to-day life, problems arise. This is called incongruence. When incongruence happens, we become uncomfortable and may start experiencing anxiety and depression. My role is to create a safe place for you to explore who you truly are and want to be. The second perspective is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I look at how thoughts feed into our feelings and behaviors. We work on challenging thoughts that cause feelings of inadequacy, fear, shame, and much more.
